Elmira College’s Connor Powell ’20 Named CCM/AHCA Second-Team All-American
STEVENS POINT, Wis. — The 2018-19 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Co-Player of the Year, Elmira College’s Connor Powell ’20, received further recognition at the 2018-19 NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Championship Banquet on Thursday evening, as the standout junior was announced as a CCM Hockey/American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-America Second Team honoree.
Powell becomes the 21st skater in program history to garner All-American status. He joins first-line teammate Nick Ford ’20, who was named to the All-America Second Team following the 2017-18 season. He is one of three student-athletes from the UCHC included on this year’s ballot alongside Manhattanville College defenseman Oscar Arfelt and fellow UCHC Co-Player of the Year Matt Lippa.
A product of Merrimack, New Hampshire, Powell concluded his junior campaign with a team- and career-high 23 goals. Among national leaders, he was tied for second in goals, fourth in goals per game (0.85), and was one shy of first place with five game-winning goals. He paced the UCHC in both goals and game-winners, and was among the top 10 in points (36), power-play points (15), power-play goals (7), and shorthanded goals (3).
The third-year forward added his name to Elmira’s illustrious 100-point club with a season-high four-point (2g-2a) performance in a 4-1 victory over Nazareth College on February 2. Of his 10 multi-point games, Powell logged his first two collegiate hat tricks on January 18 in an 11-1 win over King’s College (Pa.) and on February 15 in a 6-4 defeat of Stevenson. With the help of Powell’s scoring prowess, the Soaring Eagles earned the No. 2 seed in the UCHC Tournament with a 12-4-2 conference record, marking the first time EC has won double-digit conference games since the 2009-10 season.
