Brenden Duffy scored two goals to lead the Queensbury Spartans to a 4-0 win over the John Jay Indians. It was the first high school boys hockey game out of four to be played at Harborcenter in Buffalo, NY.
The games are part of the two-day NYSPHS Athletic Association Ice Hockey State Championships for boys. Queensbury vs. John Jay is part of the Division II playoffs.
The Spartans opened the scoring in the first period at the 11:10 mark when Brendan Murphy scored. Brayden Ordway got the assist.
Queensbury scored two more times in the second period, increasing their lead to 3-0. Ian Miller scored at 4:35 with Casey Moulthrop and Will Vogel assisting.
Duffy scored the first of his two goals for the game at 11:58 of the second period to make it 3-0 for the Spartans.
Duffy rounded out the scoring for Queensbury with an empty net goal at the 14:02 mark of the third period to make the final, 4-0.
The Spartans outshot the Indians 35 to 17 for the game.
Owen Smith recorded the shutout for Queensbury in the nets. Eric Sasimovich stopped 31 of the shots he faced for John Jay.
Queensbury will face the winner of the Webster Thomas vs. Skaneateles game on Sunday.
