Sadie Peart and Olivia Mobley scored goals in the third period to turn a 3-3 tie into a 5-3 win for the Quinnipiac women’s hockey team in an ECAC Hockey contest against St. Lawrence University on Sunday afternoon in Hamden, Connecticut.

Jessica Poirier led St. Lawrence with a goal and an assist, and Julia Gosling and Shailynn Snow also scored goals for the Saints, who won the first game of the three-game series yesterday, 4-1.

St. Lawrence fell to 1-4-0 overall and 1-3-0 in ECAC Hockey play, while Quinnipiac improved to 8-4-0, 2-4-0. The two teams, now tied for third in the ECAC Hockey standings, will wrap up the series with a rubber match tomorrow at 2 p.m.

“We had another strong effort tonight,” said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells ’92 P’23. “We were pleased with a lot of the things we did and we took another step in getting better. Tomorrow will be another good test for our team. Quinnipiac is a team that is always so well-conditioned. We don’t play three games in three days often, so it will be fun to get out there after today’s game.”

Julia Gosling gave the Saints an early lead with her third goal of the weekend on a beautiful feed from Anna Segedi. Segedi created the play with a nice rush down the left side and slid the puck across the ice to the right side of the goal, where Gosling was able to redirect it with the back side of her stick just 3:32 into the contest.

Quinnipiac tied the game just over a minute later, as Laura Lundblad picked off a pass in the Saints’ defensive end and sent a wrist shot from the slot into the right side of the net.

The Bobcats took their first lead of the game halfway through the first period when Courtney Vorster sent a shot from the high slot into the left side of the net.

The Saints responded, however, as Shailynn Snow lifted a puck from just outside the crease past Quinnipiac goaltender Logan Anders for her first of the season later in the first period. Poirier and Rachel Bjorgan picked up assists.

The two teams traded goals in the second period, with Taylor House striking first to give the Bobcats a 3-2 lead. Mobley took a shot on goal that St. Lawrence goaltender Jaimie Rainville saved, but House skated hard into the crease, putting away the rebound before crashing into the net.

Poirier tied the game for the Saints just 27 seconds later, tipping a shot from the point by Chloé Puddifant past Anders. Puddifant, a sophomore transfer from Dartmouth, earned her first point in a St. Lawrence uniform with the assist, and Taylor Lum picked up the secondary helper for the Saints.

Peart scored the game-winning goal about halfway through the third period, sending a one-timer from inside the right faceoff dot low to the far side. Mobley added some insurance with a power play goal four minutes later, redirecting a shot from the point by Kendall Cooper into the net.

The Bobcats outshot the Saints 38-19. Angers made 16 saves to earn the win. Caitlin Whitehead (15 saves, two goals allowed) started in net for the Saints, and  Rainville (18 saves, three goals allowed) came into the game halfway through the second period.
