HAMILTON – Colgate women’s ice hockey defenseman Cat Quirion earned ECAC Hockey Player of the Week honors for the week of Oct. 3-9, as the league announced Tuesday.
The senior captain earned her first career ECAC Hockey Player of the Week award after she notched five points in the series against Merrimack, leading all ECAC Hockey players over the weekend.
The Lac-Megantic, Que. native recorded a career-high three points against Merrimack on Friday night, registering one goal and two assists to help the Raiders defeat the Warriors 4-3. Quirion fired a hard shot past the Merrimack goalie to capitalize on a power-play opportunity, giving Colgate the 2-1 lead. The senior earned her final assist of the game on the game-winner with 17 seconds left in the final period.
Quirion dished out two assists in the 6-0 win against Merrimack on Saturday. The defenseman recorded her first helper just 11 minutes into the game, finding Bailey Larson in front of the net for the goal. Just six minutes later, the senior earned her second assist of the game, giving the Raiders the 3-0 lead at the end of the first period. Colgate went on to win the game 6-0.
Colgate and Quinnipiac are tied for the best record among ECAC Hockey teams with matching 4-0-0 records.
Raiders Moving Up in National Rankings
After going undefeated through the first four games, Colgate moved up to sixth in the USCHO.com National poll, the Raiders’ highest ranking in program history. Four ECAC Hockey teams are ranked in the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Top 10 Polls.
The Raiders are off this coming weekend, but are back in action for a weekend series with Syracuse on Oct. 21 and 22. Colgate travels to Syracuse to take on the Orange at 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 21, then the squad comes back to Hamilton for Saturday’s 3:00 p.m. matchup against Syracuse.
