Former Director of Hockey Operations Promoted in Fifth Season with USHL |
CHICAGO, ILL – The United States Hockey League (USHL) announced Saturday that Roslyn, NY native Evan Rand has been promoted to Vice President of Hockey Administration effective immediately. The 2020-21 season is Rand’s fifth with the USHL. “We’re incredibly happy to promote Evan to Vice President of Hockey Administration,” said USHL President & Commissioner Tom Garrity. “Evan has been an integral part of the league office for the past four seasons and is a great representative of the USHL’s values.” In his role, Rand manages the league’s hockey operations and business development. His oversight includes the USHL’s central registry and drafts, game operations, event planning, player safety and supplemental discipline, and managing a league-wide licensing and product partnership program. In addition, he serves as the league’s liaison, and works closely with a variety of key groups and stakeholders, including team hockey operations and medical staffs, the league’s Competition Committee, the league’s Referee-in-Chief, Bauer, HockeyTech, USA Hockey, and the National Hockey League. Through the USHL’s relationship with the NHL and USA Hockey, Rand is responsible for partnerships that brought league-wide solutions to mental wellness through a resiliency training program, advanced video analytics, staff development, educational tutoring and NCAA guidance, the hiring of a consulting neuropsychologist to oversee the league’s concussion protocol and officiating development. He also oversaw a collaborative effort with the Competition Committee to finalize the league’s current rulebook governing all off-ice rules, such as game operations and roster regulations. Prior to the start of the 2020-21 season, Rand led the USHL’s COVID-19 return to play efforts. This includes leading the league’s COVID-19 Return to Play Task Force, sharing resources with other professional leagues and collegiate conferences on their best practices, and hiring a consulting epidemiologist and cardiologist to put league-wide safety protocols in place. Rand continues to lead in this area by working with teams on a daily basis throughout the season by providing them with necessary resources and updated best practices. Previously, Rand spent eight seasons with the National Hockey League (NHL) in a variety of roles, including five seasons in the Department of Player Safety. There, Rand was involved in monitoring player conduct during games and preparing presentations for General Managers, the Board of Governors and Competition Committee. Rand previously served as Coordinator of Direct & Digital Marketing with the NHL. Rand graduated from New York University with a degree in Sports Management and is currently working towards a Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
