Rebecca Russo Signs With New York Riveters

New York, NY — Rebecca Russo has signed a contract with the New York Riveters for the 2016-17 season, General Manager Chad Wiseman announced Tuesday. Russo and the Riveters agreed to terms on a one-year, $13,000 contract.

“I’m very excited to be a member of the 2016-2017 New York Riveters team, and I’m grateful to continue my dream of playing hockey after college on a professional level,” said Russo. “I am honored to have signed with this league and happy that women’s ice hockey is recognized at such an elite level.”

Russo played 144 games with Boston University, scoring 85 points (37g, 48a). The forward from Westport, CT had career-high totals in goals (15), assists (23), and points (38) her senior season. Russo played with USA Hockey’s U-18 team at the 2011 summer series against Canada.

“My new teammates are a group of extremely talented women and it’s very exciting for me to be reunited with some former teammates from Boston University and Shattuck St. Mary’s,” Russo continued. “I can’t wait for the season to get underway. Thanks to the NWHL for providing me with this opportunity.”

Restricted free agency began on April 1 and lasted until April 30. Free agency began May 1 and lasts until July 31. The 2016 NWHL Draft was on June 18.
