RIT Men’s Hockey Trio Earn Atlantic Hockey Weekly Honors

ROCHESTER, NY – Three members of the RIT men’s hockey team earned Atlantic Hockey weekly honors on Tuesday, for the week ending Feb. 24, 2019. Erik Brown (Keene, Ontario/Kemptville 73’s) was named Atlantic Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, while Adam Brubacher (Elmira, Ontario/Powell River Kings) earned Defensive Player of the Week honors and Kobe Walker (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Bobcats) was the Rookie of the Week.

Brown scored three goals and added an assist in a 1-0-1 weekend versus Robert Morris. On Friday, Brown scored two power-play goals and added an assist, including the game-winning goal with 6:23 remaining in regulation that broke a 3-3 tie and lifted RIT to a 5-3 win. On Saturday, Brown scored the game-tying power-play goal with 5:04 remaining in regulation in a 2-2 tie. Brown now leads the Tigers with 16 goals this season, with nine on the power-play. He has 68 career goals. This marks Brown’s third AHA weekly honor of 2018-19 and fifth of his career.

Brubacher assisted on four goals, fired 10 shots on goal, blocked five shots and was plus-1 in a 1-0-1 weekend versus Robert Morris. Friday, Brubacher tied a career-high with three assists and blocked three shots in a 5-3 win over the Colonials. He broke up the clearing pass that led to RIT’s empty-net goal late in regulation that put the game away. On Saturday, Brubacher fired seven shots on goal, blocked two shots and assisted on Brown’s game-tying goal in a 2-2 draw. Brubacher is second on RIT in scoring with 28 points on six goals and 22 assists this season. It is his first weekly honor of the season and third of his career.

Walker scored a pair of goals in a 1-0-1 week for the Tigers. He scored a key goal that gave RIT a 3-1 lead in Friday’s eventual win over Robert Morris. Saturday, he got RIT on the board with 14:06 left in regulation, as RIT rallied for a 2-2 tie. Walker now has four goals and eight assists for 12 points in 28 games this season. It is Walker’s first weekly honor of his RIT career.
