ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman forward Gabe Valenzuela (Brampton, Ontario/North York Rangers) of the RIT men’s hockey team was named the Atlantic Hockey Conference Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, for the week ending Jan. 24, 2016. It is the second weekly honor in January for Valenzeula.
Valenzuela scored three goals and was plus-2, as the Tigers swept a weekend series at Sacred Heart. On Friday, Valenzuela scored a power-play goal and fired seven shots in a 3-1 win. Sunday, he recorded the first multiple-goal game of his career, tallying RIT’s first two goals and was plus-2 in a 5-3 win. Valenzuela is third on the team in scoring with 17 points on nine goal and eight assists in 24 games played this season.
RIT (12-10-2, 12-5-1 Atlantic Hockey) is back home for a weekend series against Holy Cross. Both Friday and Saturday’s contests start at 7:05 p.m. from the Gene Polisseni Center.
