New York, NY — The National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL) today announced that the New York Riveters will call the Barnabas Health Hockey House at Newark, NJ’s Prudential Center home for the 2016-17 season.

“We’re very excited to make the move to Newark for our second season,” said Riveters General Manager Chad Wiseman. “The Barnabas Health Hockey House staff have been very welcoming and we’re excited to continue to grow our fan base into New Jersey.”

“The National Women’s Hockey League has done an amazing job showcasing its talented athletes and providing inspirational stories to hockey fans everywhere,” said Hugh Weber, president of Prudential Center and the New Jersey Devils. “We are thrilled to welcome the Riveters to Newark and share a vision with the team and the league to grow the sport in our communities throughout New Jersey. Women’s hockey plays a critical role in the development of young athletes and we are excited to be an integral part of the movement.”

The Barnabas Health Hockey House, which hosted the NWHL 2016 Isobel Cup Final, welcomes 250,000 community members each year for youth, high school, collegiate, and adult league clinics, practices, and games. The rink, which is connected to Prudential Center, is the official practice ice of the three-time Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils and one of two practice facilities in the country owned and operated by an NHL team.
