NEW YORK, NY— The fans at Aviator Sports & Events Center went home happy on Fan Appreciation Day after the Riveters won their final home game in the shootout versus the Buffalo Beauts, 4-3.
The Riveters got on the board early on a wrist shot from Meghan Fardelmann. That lead stuck until the second period when the Beauts were able to get two goals from Devon Skeats and Shelby Bram, sending them into the third with a 2-1 lead.
Penalties proved to be costly for the Beauts in the third frame, as the Riveters were able to come from behind twice on power play goals. The first came on a deflection from Morgan Fritz- Ward. Later in the third, Kelley Steadman ripped a shot past Nana Fujimoto to give the Beauts a 3-2 lead. However, the lead didn’t last long, as a slap shot from Bray Ketchum tied the game at 3.
The Beauts put on lots of pressure in overtime, but Fujimoto made several big saves to keep the game going. Fujimoto ended the day with 38 saves.
Kiira Dosdall netted the winner in the shootout, and Fujimoto stopped 2 of 3 to give the Riveters a 4-3 win. The teams face each other again next weekend in Buffalo.
