ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman goaltender Mike Rotolo (Rochester, NY/Cedar Rapids Roughriders) of the RIT men’s hockey team was named the Atlantic Hockey Assocation Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, for the week ending Dec. 15, 2013. It is Rotolo’s second weekly honor of the season, as he was named the AHA Goaltender of the Week on Dec. 3.
Rotolo extended his career-long unbeaten streak to six games, by stopping 34 of 36 shots in a 2-2 tie against Niagara in front of 4,760 fans at Frontier Field in downtown Rochester as part of RIT’s first ever outdoor game on Saturday night. Rotolo was great in the third period and overtime, stopping 16-of-17 shots in helping RIT preserve the tie. Rotolo is now 5-0-1 this season with a 1.97 goals against average and .937 save percentage.
The Tigers are off until 2014, when they travel to AHA rival Connecticut to face the Huskies onJan. 3-4. RIT heads into the semester break riding a six-game unbeaten streak (5-0-1), its longest since 2011-12.
