TROY, N.Y. – Freshman Paul McAvoy scored a pair of goals and sophomore Colton Point made 34 saves to lead the Colgate University men’s hockey team to a 5-2 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in the 41st Annual Big Red Freakout! on Saturday night at the Houston Field House. With the win, the Raiders improve to 14-14-6 overall (10-9-3 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 5-25-4 (4-16-2 ECAC Hockey).
The win clinched the eighth seed in the ECAC Hockey Tournament for Colgate. The Raiders will host 11th seed RPI in a best-of-three series, beginning on Friday (7pm) at Class of 1965 Arena.
