TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men’s hockey captain has been announced and seniors Riley Bourbonnais and Jimmy DeVito will wear the ‘C’ throughout the 2016-17 season. Classmate Parker Reno will take on the roll of alternate captain. The announcement was made by 11th-year head coach Seth Appert.

“I am pleased to announce that Jimmy DeVito and Riley Bourbonnais will serve as co-captains of our program, while Parker Reno will serve as alternate captain,” said Appert. “These three have all grown tremendously through their time as Engineers and embody the values of passion, family, competitiveness and gratitude that are the core of our program.”

A forward from Rochester, N.Y., Bourbonnais led the Engineers in scoring last season, posting 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 points in 35 games. Five of his tallies came on the power play, while three were game-winners and one was a shorthanded goal. Recording a team-high 93 shots, he was assessed 13 penalties for 34 minutes.

Bourbonnais played in 18 ECAC Hockey games, scoring four goals and adding seven assists for 11 points. The former Lincoln Stars standout has played in 85 career games at Rensselaer, totaling 20 goals and 20 assists for 40 points.

A forward out of Bloomingdale, Ill., DeVito registered 11 points on two goals and nine assists in just 20 games last year. One of his goals was a game-winner and he was assessed three minor penalties for six minutes.

DeVito appeared in 14 ECAC Hockey contests last season, picking up one goal and seven assists for eight points. Through 84 career games at RPI, he has four goals and 16 assists for 20 points.

Reno, who is a defenseman from Edina, Minn., played in 25 games season, handing out nine assists for nine points. A team-best +12 on the year, he took only one penalty for two minutes.

In 11 conference games, Reno had four assists and was a +8. A graduate of Edina High School, he has played in 63 games at RPI, with two goals and 10 assists for 12 points.

RPI has started the season with an 0-2 record, having dropped a two-game series at Maine last weekend. The Engineers return to action on Saturday, when they visit No. 1 North Dakota (8:07pm ET).
