TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) athletic department has announced that freshman student-athlete Brady Wiffen will sit out the 2015-16 men’s hockey season. A member of the men’s hockey team, he will be able to practice but not play this year after being ruled a partial qualifier by the NCAA.

“While we are disappointed for Brady, he has the opportunity to concentrate more fully on his academics while also being part of the team,” said director of athletics Dr. Lee McElroy. “Based on the history of academic success of our student-athletes; we are confident Brady will be successful as a Rensselaer student and that includes in the classroom, on the ice and in the community.

We appreciate the NCAA’s efforts in doing their due diligence through the waiver process and the subsequent appeal process.”
