BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres announced the team has hired Andrew Allen as goaltending coach.

Allen will join the Sabres’ coaching staff after spending the last four seasons as the developmental goaltending coach for the Chicago Blackhawks. In that role, Allen oversaw the development of goaltenders playing for the Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs. Prior to his time with the Blackhawks, Allen spent three seasons as goaltending coach for St. Lawrence University (ECAC).

A former goaltender, Allen played professional hockey for five seasons, including AHL stints with the Utah Grizzlies, Hershey Bears, Binghamton Senators and Providence Bruins. He also compiled a 76-43-15 record in 142 ECHL games. Before beginning his professional career, the Vankleek Hill, Ontario native spent four seasons backstopping the University of Vermont Catamounts (ECAC).
