BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has signed defenseman Bobby Sanguinetti to a one-year, two-way contract.

Sanguinetti (6’3”, 190 lbs., 2/29/1988) spent last season as an alternate captain for the Utica Comets, scoring a career-best 16 goals in 61 AHL games. His 40 points (16+24) in 2014-15 led all Comets defensemen and tied for ninth among all AHL blueliners.

The Trenton, New Jersey native led all AHL defensemen in 2014-15 with six game-winning goals and his team-high plus-24 rating tied for eighth in the league. During the Comets’ deep 2015 playoff run, Sanguinetti recorded 14 more (3+11) in 23 games, again leading all AHL defensemen. At the conclusion of the season, he was named to the AHL Second All-Star Team.

Since becoming a first-round (21st overall) selection of the New York Rangers, Sanguinetti has appeared in 45 NHL games in parts of three seasons with the Rangers and the Carolina Hurricanes, registering six points (2+4) and eight penalty minutes. In eight AHL seasons, he has totaled 210 points (50+160) and 126 penalty minutes in 338 games.
