Senior Abbey McRae and junior Brooke Webster each scored for the second straight game to help the Saints to a 2-1 win over Brown at the Meehan Auditorium in Providence on Friday night. With the win, the Saints improve to 11-9-1 overall and 5-4-0 in the ECAC.
“A big two points to get tonight at Brown,” Head Coach Chris Wells said. “We had plenty of chances to get some space on Brown, but they did a good job knocking down pucks around the net when we had plays.
We hit 3-4 pipes which made it exciting,” Wells added. “A couple of late goals in each of the first two periods made the difference.”
McRae opened the scoring for St. Lawrence, putting the visitor’s in front 1-0 with 37 seconds remaining in the opening frame. First-year Kayla Nielsen won a battle along the end wall and skated behind the net before hitting McRae for a wrister at the bottom of the right circle.
With just under two minutes to play in the second Webster tallied the game winner for the Saints; her third goal in two games. The Aurora, Ont. native split a pair of Brown defenders before beating netminder Julianne Landry in the slot.
The Bears spoiled sophomore Brooke Wolejko’s shutout bid midway through the third period with a rebound goal by Cara Najjar to bring the game to the final 2-1 margin.
The Saints outshot Brown 42-15 in the contest, with Landry registering 40 saves for the Bears. Wolejko made 14 stops for St. Lawrence in the win.
St. Lawrence continues its ECAC road trip with a 4:00 p.m. game at Yale on Saturday afternoon.
