William Smith College senior goalie Maggie Salmon (Medford, Mass./The Govenor’s Academy) began the 2017-18 season the same way she ended 2016-17, being named the conference’s goaltender of the week. Salmon was tabbed the United Collegiate Hockey Conference’s inaugural Goalie of the Week late yesterday by the conference office.

The Herons opened their season this past weekend, Oct. 27-28, with a pair of non-conference wins over Salve Regina. Salmon played all 120 minutes in goal for William Smith, producing a pair of shutouts. She stopped all 24 shots she faced, becoming the first Heron goalie to post back-to-back shutouts. Dating back to last season, Salmon hasn’t allowed a goal in 179:32 minutes, in fact she has allowed just two goals in her last four games.

Salmon now has six career shutouts, three have come against the Seahawks.

William Smith’s offense peppered the Seahawks for a total of 13 goals on the weekend. Fifteen different players registered at least a point for the Herons, led by senior forward Krista Federow. Saturday’s 9-0 win saw the Herons set the program’s single-game mark for goals (9), assists (15), and points (24).

After a weekend off, William Smith will be back in action Nov. 10-11 when it opens up UCHC play at Stevenson. It will be the Herons first trip to Owings Mills, Md.
