REISTERSTOWN, MD — A pair of goals in a span of a minute at the end of the first period and two more in 22 seconds early in the second period gave the Nazareth College women’s hockey team a 7-3 victory Saturday over Stevenson University in a United College Hockey Conference (UCHC) matchup on the road.
Mikaila Rubin started the scoring for Nazareth (8-0-0 overall, 4-0-0 UCHC) less than two minutes into the contest. The assist on the play went to Stephanie Kubis.
Stevenson (1-6-1, 0-5-1) tied the score midway through the period before Taylor Hudon started the first scoring spurt at the 13:38 mark of the opening period with a power play goal. Hailey Redders and Keeley Rose assisted on the goal and less than a minute later, Redders scored to make it a 3-1 lead for the Golden Flyers.
The scoring continued early in the second period as Delaney Carle scored with a pass from Cristina Darby 2:17 into the period. It took just 22 seconds for Nazareth to add to its lead as Hanna Barry scored off a pass from Hannah Tulchinsky as the Golden Flyers surged ahead, 5-1.
A Gabriella DeMeo goal three minutes later made it 6-1, but Stevenson answered with a pair of goals in a one-minute span to narrow the gap. The first was a power play goal and the second was a shorthanded tally.
Jessica Kollberg closed out the scoring with the only goal of the final period to make the final score 7-3. Nazareth used a 45-21 shots advantage and limited the Mustangs to just six shots in the third period.
Adrianna Brehm made 18 saves to improve to 5-0 on the year.
Nazareth is off until after the Thanksgiving break with games against Chatham Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at the Bill Gray’s Iceplex.
