COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sean Hogan (White Lake, Mich.) has been named the head coach of the U.S. Men’s National University Team that will compete in the 2017 Winter World University Games from Jan. 28 – Feb. 8 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, USA Hockey announced today.

Nick Fabbrini (Champaign, Ill.) and Rick Zombo (Wildwood, Mo.) were also tabbed assistant coaches.

“We are extremely pleased to have Sean Hogan leading our squad into the 2017 Winter World University Games,” said Ashley Bevan, team leader of the U.S. Men’s National University Team and USA Hockey’s senior director of adult hockey. “Also, having a former NHL player in Rick Zombo, along with Nick Fabbrini’s ACHA experience, makes for a great coaching staff that will serve our team very well.”

Hogan returns to the Winter World University Games after serving as an assistant coach in 2015 and 2013. Currently in his third season as head coach of the men’s hockey team at Ohio University, Hogan has guided the Bobcats to a 56-16-8 record and a pair of ACHA national tournament appearances in his first two seasons. He also led Ohio to the 2014-15 Central States Collegiate Hockey League regular-season title, the school’s first since 2009.

Fabbrini is currently in his fifth season as head coach of the men’s hockey team at the University of Illinois. He led the Illini to the 2013 CSCHL regular-season championship and was a finalist for the 2013 ACHA Coach of the Year Award. He is making his Team USA coaching debut.

Zombo is in his seventh season as the head coach of the men’s hockey team at Lindenwood University. He was named 2016 ACHA Coach of the Year after leading Lindenwood to its first ACHA national championship since 2010. A 12-year NHL defenseman, Zombo is making his Team USA coaching debut.
