BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators fell 3-1 to the Hershey Bears in the seventh of their eight total meetings this season.
Riley Barber notched his 20th goal of the season 8:27 into the first period to give Hershey the 1-0 lead. Binghamton responded on their first power-play opportunity of the night with just over three minutes to play to even the score 1-1. Phil Varone collected a rebound in front of the Bear’s netminder Dan Ellis and backhanded home his 14th strike of the year and his first in a B-Sens uniform to send the teams to the first intermission tied 1-1.
Binghamton outshot the Bears 11-5 over the second period, but Hershey’s Riley Barber notched the second period’s lone goal to regain a 2-1 lead for the Bears heading into the final intermission.
Hershey added an empty-net tally from Chris Bourque with just over 30 seconds to play in regulation to push the final score to 3-1.
Matt O’Connor allowed two goals on 20 shots faced in the loss while Dan Ellis grabbed his fifth straight win stopping 22 of 23 shots faced.
