Hobart College first-year defenseman Tanner Shaw (Toronto, Ontario) was named to the D3hockey.com National Team of the Week this afternoon. In addition, the NCAA released its final public regional rankings and the Statesmen remained the No. 1 team in the East Region.
The NCAA regional rankings are used to determine both NCAA tournament bids and seedings. The top four teams in both the East and the West region remained the same.
It’s the sixth time a Statesman has been named to the National Team of the Week this season. Shaw notched two goals in Hobart’s 3-0 ECAC West Tournament semifinal victory over No. 4 seed Neumann last Saturday. He scored what proved to be the game winner early in the first period and added an empty net goal late in the third to seal the victory. Shaw has played in 25 games this winter. He has posted five goals and six assists for 11 points. Shaw is tied for sixth in the ECAC West with two game-winning goals this year. He also ranks seventh in the conference in defenseman scoring and tied for seventh in first-year scoring.
The top-seeded Statesmen (20-4-2) will host No. 3 seed Utica (14-9-4) for the ECAC West tournament championship on Saturday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. in The Cooler. Fans unable to make it to the game can follow the action online with Live Stats and All-Access Video.
