POTSDAM, N.Y.- SUNY Potsdam men’s hockey coach Chris Bernard has named Robby Simpson as his assistant for the upcoming 2017-18 season. Simpson will replace Patrick Borer who left to become the new head coach of the Nashville Jr Predators in the NA3HL. The Etobicoke, Ontario native brings a wealth of playing experience and a variety of coaching skills to the Bears program.
Simpson graduated from Elmira College in 2016 where he earned a B.A. in Psychology and Music. During his time at Elmira Simpson, competed in 100 career games as a defenseman and totaled 22 career points (2-20-22) over the course of four years. Simpson also spent one year in the Southern Professional Hockey League where he played in 55 regular season and four playoff games, totaling 15 points.
Simpson has served as an instructor for hockey camps developing elite hockey players in the 9-16 age group. He demonstrated a wide variety of skating, shooting and passing drills. Simpson also facilitated drills that are designed to improve goalie skills for all levels including OHL, AHL, and NCAA.
The Bears open up their 2017-18 campaign on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. when they host Saint Michael’s College.
