Six New York State players have been named to the 2022 USA Collegiate Select Team that will compete in a three-game series with Canada later this week (Aug. 17, 18 and 20).
In Goal is Abbey Levy of Congers who most recently played at Boston College. On Defense will be Sydney Bard, New Hartford and a Colgate University player; Natalie Buchbinder of Fairport who last played with the University of Wisconsin and Haley Winn of Rochester and Clarkson University. Forwards selected incude Maureen Murphy of Buffalo and Northeastern University and Kiara Zanon, Fairport and Penn State University.
The team also includes in Goal: Callie Shanahan of Commerce Township, Mich. and Amanda Thiele, Milford Mich.
Defense: Charlotte Akervik, Eau Clair, Wis., Nicole LaMantia, Wayne, Ill., Madeline Wethington, Edina, Mn., and Anna Wilgren, Hudson, Wis.
Forwards: Kelly Browne, Burlington, Mass.; Britta Curl, Bismark, ND; Lalla Edwards, Cleveland Heights, Ohio; Tessa Janecki, Orangeville, Ill.; Kelsey King, Elk River, Minn.; Paetyn Levis, Rogers, Minn.; Abbey Murphy, Evergreen Park, Ill.; Jamie Nelson, Andover, Minn.; Casey O’Brien, Aquinnah, Mass.; Dominique Petrie, Hermosa Beach, Calif.; and Makenna Websgter, St. Louis, Mo.
“It has been a few years since this team has been able to compete. We’re excited to head up to Canada for our series,” Allison Coomey, head coach of the 2022 U.S. Collegiate Women’s Select Team said. “We have a lot of talented collegiate players that we know will represent Team USA proudly.”
The U.S. Collegiate Women’ Select Team is normally referenced as the U.S. Under-22 Women’s Select Team, but due to not playing the past two years, all players with collegiate eligibility were able to make the team.
