Rochester, New York – Over 3000 ice hockey players and family members will come together this holiday weekend for the Empire State Cup. The annual tournament, put on by MYHockey Tournaments out of Chicago IL., will take place at the Sports Centre at MCC and runs from January 19th through the 21st.
80 youth hockey teams will compete, of which 60 teams travel in from outside the area and call Rochester home throughout the event. These teams represent a wide range of States in the US (NY, NJ, MI, MD, ME, IL) and also Provence of Ontario, Canada. The 60 out of town teams equates to roughly 2250 out of town guests that will reside in local hotels, dine in local restaurants and shop in local stores over a for day period.
Based on the National Association of Sports Commissions Economic Impact Assumptions, this event will result in approximately $1,500,000 of economic impact to the local community..
“The Sports Centre is the ideal facility for running these large hockey tournaments,” said Jim Babin, President of MYHockey Tournaments. “The close proximity of many hotels, restaurants and shopping add to the appeal of this tournament location and is why we choose to host six tournaments throughout the year.”
