The Starpoint vs Kenmore West game started out as normal; but at the 14:58 mark a collision in front of the Starpoint bench sent Kenmore West’s Sean Whitney to the hospital. Both teams left the ice as the medical crew attended to Whitney. Teams came back on the ice and warmed up for 3 minutes and the game took went on. Our thoughts and prayers go to Whitney and his family as we understand he was taken into surgery upon arrival at the hospital. NYHOL received word as this was being published that Whitney is in the hospital and doing well.
Kenmore opened the scoring on a goal by Christian Leone, assisted by Nate Burd. Starpoint didn’t let that go as Alec Kirk scored, assisted by William Mainstone and Bobby Taylor. They sealed the lead in the first period at 2-1 after Taylor scored on assists by Owen Kiesman and Matt Myhalenko.
Bull struck again for Starpoint in the second period, assisted by Myhalenko. Then Kirk found the net once again, assisted by Jacob Cyrek and Taylor. Kenmore’s Connor Heubusch scored assisted by Chrlie Marzec. The final goal of that period was a Hatrick for Kirk as he scored on the powerplay ending the second 5-2.
More penalities that goals in the third but Starpoint scored once more to seal the game at 6-2 on a goal by Justin Bull, assisted by Owen Kiesman and Josh Mclellan.
Goaltending was a key last evening with Starpoint’s Rich Gareau stopping 19 of 21 shots and Kenmore’s Max Pelino stopping 19 of 27.
Starpoint has a 16-5-1 overall record and Kenmore West, 9-11-2.
Starpoint moves on to the finals on Thursday to face Williamsville East, who won the second game of the evening at Northtown on Tuesday.
