GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College junior goalie Lino Chimienti (Montreal, Quebec) earned his second career shutout as the Statesmen downed visiting Salve Regina 7-0 in a non-league game played tonight at The Cooler. He turned aside all 43 shots that he faced to help Hobart improve to 10-5-0 this season.

The Seahawks fall to 6-6-2 this year. Chimienti’s 43 saves are a season-high and are just two shy of his career-high of 45 which came on Feb. 26, 2014 against Nazareth. Six Statesmen notched two points in the victory. Sophomore Nick Bingaman (Paradise Valley, Ariz.), sophomore Bobby Sokol (Belle Vernon, Pa.), first-year Andrew Silard(Greenwich, Conn.), senior Brad McBride (Lone Tree, Colo.) and senior Sean Rudy (Long Sault, Ontario) each produced a goal and an assist. Senior Terrence O’Neill (Kearny, N.J.) added two assists.

The Statesmen jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. At 5:26 in, Sokol capitalized on a flurry of action in front of the net to make it 1-0. Junior Mac Olson (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) put a shot on goal that bounced off the pads of the Seahawks’ goalie, and Sokol buried the rebound for his second goal this season. Rudy notched his second goal of the season to make it 2-0 at 7:20. He blasted his shot from the left side at the blue line right into the top right corner of the goal. With 23 seconds left in the opening period, junior Ben Gamache (Longlac, Ontario) tipped in a shot that O’Neill drilled from the blue line. Gamache’s sixth goal of the year made it 3-0.

Hobart stretched its lead with three more goals in the second period. Just 2:09 in, Bingaman took a pass from Sokol and carried the puck into the zone, maneuvering around the Salve Regina defensemen and sliding his shot into the left side of the goal. It was his eighth goal of the year. Six minutes later, senior Tommaso Traversa (Torino, Italy) made it 5-0. Junior Brad Robbins (Murrieta,Calif.) stole the puck away from the Seahawks and carried it deep into the zone, dishing to Traversa who was streaking in. It was Traversa’s ninth goal of the season. At 13:14 into the second period, McBride made it 6-0 with a power-play tally off assists from senior Ryan Michel (Camillus, N.Y.) and O’Neill.

The Statesmen added their seventh and final goal in the third period. Silard posted his second goal of the year, sending home the rebound of a shot by Rudy with 3:43 left in the game.

Salve Regina’s best scoring chances came in the second period. A little over three minutes into the middle period, Peter Gintoli clanged a shot off the right post. Then with just over seven minutes left in the period, John Scorcia broke through for a one-on-one with Chimienti while his team was on the penalty kill. Chimienti stuffed Scorcia’s shot with his pads to preserve the shutout. David Chiokadze played the first 7:20 in goal for the Seahawks and made three saves. Alexander Devine came in for the final 52:40 and finished with 35 saves.

Hobart finished with a 45-43 advantage in shots. The Statesmen were 1-for-8 on the power play, and killed all five of the Seahawks power play attempts.

The Statesmen will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 17, when they host Nichols for another non-league game at 7:30 p.m.
