Statesmen break into D3hockey.com poll, Oplinger named Goalie of the Week
The Hobart College ice hockey team broke into the D3hockey.com poll this week at No. 15. In addition, first-year goaltender Frank Oplinger (Sewickley, Pa.) was tabbed the ECAC West Goalie of the Week by the conference this afternoon.
It’s the second time Oplinger has earned the Goalie of the Week award, and he was also named the conference’s Rookie of the Week once this season. He played all 122:39 between the pipes in Hobart’s two wins this weekend. Oplinger logged a total of 60 saves and posted a 1.96 GAA and a .938 save percentage over the weekend. In a 3-2 overtime victory on Friday night, he turned aside 32 shots. In Saturday’s 4-2 victory, Oplinger finished with 28 saves. He leads the ECAC West in save percentage (.926) and win percentage (.818) and ranks second in goals against average (2.45).
It’s the third time this season that the Statesmen have been ranked No. 15 by one of the national polls. Hobart currently sits in first place in the ECAC West standings with 18 points. The Statesmen are one point ahead of second place Nazareth. Hobart leads the league in scoring offense averaging 4.14 goals per game. The Statesmen also rank second on the power play (25.0%).
Junior forward Bo Webster leads the team and ranks fifth in the ECAC West with 22 points. He’s fifth in the league with a team-high 14 assists. Senior forward Brad McBride sits atop the conference with a 12 goals. He’s added seven assists for 19 points.
