The Hobart College hockey team is ranked No. 6 in both the D3hockey.com poll and the USCHO.com poll. The Statesmen are 4-1-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the ECAC West.
Hobart will host two conference games in The Cooler this weekend. The Statesmen face Nazareth on Friday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m., and then will take on No. 8/9 Utica on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m.
Over the weekend, Hobart fell 5-3 at Manhattanville on Friday night, and then rebounded with an 8-5 win over Neumann on Saturday. Senior Bobby Sokol (Belle Vernon, Pa.) leads the Statesmen with five goals and an assist for six points. Senior Carl Belizario (Dorval, Quebec) and sophomore Brandon Bistodeau (Rogers, Minn.) have dished out a team-high four assists. Junior goalie Frank Oplinger (Sewickley, Pa.) has played the most minutes in goal. He’s sporting a 3.19 goals against average and a .909 save percentage as well as a 2-1-1 record.
The Golden Flyers bring a 3-2-1 overall record and a 3-1-0 mark in the ECAC West into Friday’s game. Dominik Gabaj leads the team with 11 points on six goals and five assists. Brandon Lane has seen the most minutes in goal. He has a 2.86 goals against average and a .917 save percentage.
Utica enters the weekend with a 6-0-0 record and a 4-0-0 ECAC West record. The Pioneers play at Elmira on Friday night before coming to Geneva. Heading into the weekend, Roman Ammirato leads Utica with 14 points on six goals and eight assists. Patrik Virtanen and Henry Dill have split time in goal. Virtanen is sporting a 1.67 goals against average and a .934 save percentage. He’s 3-0-0 in goal. Dill is also 3-0-0 in goal and has a 2.33 goals against average and a .924 save percentage.
