The Hobart College Hockey team has teamed up with the non-profit Thrive to Survive to host a “Drop the Puck on Cancer” night for its game against conference rival Utica on Friday, Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in The Cooler.

Thrive to Survive is dedicated to providing support in a variety of ways to adults living in Geneva, Waterloo, Seneca Falls and Penn Yan, N.Y., diagnosed with and being treated for cancer. Through this support, Thrive to Survive hopes to relieve unnecessary stress on the patient allowing them to focus on their recovery and their families. The ultimate goal of Thrive to Survive is to be able to support adults with cancer emotionally and financially while giving the hope to Thrive to Survive.

Throughout the game, Thrive to Survive will be selling fleece blankets. In addition, fans will be able to buy a rubber duck for $5 for the “chuck a duck” which will happen following the contest. All proceeds will go the Thrive to Survive. Fans who purchased a duck will walk over to the mezzanine following the game to drop their ducks onto the ice. The person whose duck finishes closest to center ice will win a raffle basket filled with restaurant gift cards and local products. Basket sponsors include Red Dove, Cams, Studio Salon, Earthly Possessions, Parkers, Pedulla’s, the Village Store and Wegmans to name a few.

The Statesmen are 12-2-2 overall this season and 5-1-0 in conference play. This weekend Hobart takes on Nazareth in two ECAC West contests before the Pioneers travel to The Cooler on Jan. 29 and 30.
