The Stouffville Spirit’s Christopher Brill-Morgan had a big offensive game, scoring four goals and contributing one assist in his team’s 6-4 win over the Buffalo Jr. Sabres.
Brill-Morgan’s first goal came 10:42 into the first period. He then added goals at 5:59 into the second, at 12:56 into the second, and at 4:44 into the third.
Stouffville kept Buffalo’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Tucker Weppner made 27 saves on 33 shots. The Spirit surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Stouffville averages 2.8 goals per game. The Spirit found themselves short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays.
Stouffville also got points from Sam Hu, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Nathan Hudgin also scored for Stouffville. Other players who recorded assists for Stouffville were Alex Williamson and Cameron Lintner, who contributed one each and Spencer Roberts, Max Novick, and Ryan DaSilva, who each chipped in two.
The Jr. Sabres forced Stouffville goalie Aaron Taylor to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.
Buffalo was helped by Zach Evancho, who had two goals and one assist. Evancho scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 15:47 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Buffalo. A boarding penalty on Hudgin had put the Jr. Sabres on the power play. Andrew Pizzo picked up the assist. Evancho’s next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Buffalo with 11:53 left in the second period. David Baskerville assisted on the tally. Buffalo additionally got points from Bryce Ferrell, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Baskerville, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Wilson Vershay and Ryan Wheeler, who contributed one each.
Aaron Taylor made 36 saves for the Spirit on 40 shots. Stouffville registered three goals on six power play opportunities. Buffalo incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
