FREDONIA, N.Y. — SUNY Canton’s Erik Hallin was a late entry into the lineup Saturday. He made the most of his chance by scoring the game-winning goal as the Kangaroos edged the Fredonia Blue Devils 2-1, during Pink The Rink 2016 at the Steele Hall Ice Arena.

Playing in place of a sick teammate, Hallin scored his first collegiate goal at the 11-minute mark of the third period. Stationed in the slot, he received a pass out of the right corner from linemate Joe Casale and put the puck behind Fredonia freshman goaltender Eric Bogart (London, Ont.).

It was the 29th collegiate game for Hallin, a sophomore from Sweden.

The Blue Devils (7-11-3) were unable to score the equalizer despite a power-play opportunity later in the third period. Fredonia was 0 for 7 on the power play in the game. Conversely, they were 7 for 7 on the penalty kill.

Josh Sova gave the Kangaroos (5-15-3) a 1-0 lead with his 10th goal of the season at 13:15 of the second period. It didn’t take Fredonia long to even the score. Marcus Ortiz (Richardson, Texas) made it 1-1 when he banged in his own record 38 seconds after the Sova score.

It was Ortiz’s ninth goal of the season. Bobby Polachek (Kingston, Pa.) picked up an assist, his 14th of the season and fifth on the weekend. Polachek had a goal and four assists in the Blue Devils’ 7-2 win over the Kangaroos on Friday night.

Josh Erickson made 31 saves to earn the goaltending win Saturday.

Fredonia returns to SUNYAC competition for the remainder of the regular season beginning with a visit next Friday from the Brockport Golden Eagles. The game will have potential playoff implications for both teams as Fredonia currently trails Brockport by three points for the sixth and final SUNYAC playoff spot.
