SUNYAC Hockey All-Decade Winners Announced

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces its Men’s Ice Hockey Athlete of the Decade, Coach of the Decade and All-Decade Team as nominated and voted on by the institution’s sports information directors.

To be eligible for the All-Decade Team, athletes must have competed in the SUNYAC at least one season during the 2009-10 academic year through 2019-20 and athletes must have been named to the All-SUNYAC team more than once or named Athlete of the Year once. Athlete and Coach of the Decade recipients were previously named SUNYAC Athlete of the Year or Coach of the Year. 

SUNYAC Men’s Ice Hockey Athlete of the Decade – Conlan Keenan, Geneseo
Recent graduate (2016-20) Keenan was a three-time All-American, four-time All-SUNYAC team member and two-time Herb Hammond SUNYAC Player of the Year (2018-19, and 2019-20). The Knights won the SUNYAC championship three years during Keenan’s career (2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20). He was the 2020 Sid Watson (Division III Player of the Year) runner up, a CoSIDA Academic All-American and was honored with the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. Keenan was also named the 2016-17 SUNYAC Rookie of the Year.

Keenan totaled 86 goals, 86 assists and 172 points ending his career as the leading active scorer in NCAA Division III. He ranks seventh in Geneseo program history in career points (172), third in career goals (86) and 14th in program history in career assists (86). In his senior season alone he had 22 goals, 28 assists and 50 points. He led the SUNYAC in goals and was ranked second in the NCAA Division III. Keenan was also second in the conference with 50 points and ranked third nationally in the division. He had five game-winning goals, seven multi-goal games including two hat tricks, eight power play goals and +/- of +22.

SUNYAC Men’s Ice Hockey Coach of the Decade – Chris Schultz, Geneseo
Schultz began coaching in 2006-07 (15th year). His decade record is 185-79-24 (.684) and his overall career record is 236-118-27. He led his team to five NCAA tournament appearances (2013-14, 2015-16, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20) including three NCAA Frozen Four appearances (2013-14, 2015-16, 2018-19). Schultz teams won four SUNYAC championships under his leadership over the last decade (2015-16, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20) and was named the SUNYAC Coach of the Year five times (2010-11, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2015-16, 2019-20). Schultz was honored as the Ed Jeremiah National Coach of the Year Award twice (2013-14, 2015-16) and was the 2020 Ed Jeremiah National Coach of the Year Award Runner-Up. He coached nine All-Americans, the 2019 Sid Watson Award and  D3 Player of the Year Devin McDonald, the 2020 Sid Watson Runner-up Conlan Keenan, the 2017 Sid Watson Runner-up Stephen Collins, five Herb Hammond SUNYAC Player of the Year winners, two SUNYAC Goalie of the Year Winners and 39 All-SUNYAC selections this decade.
