The Orchard Park/Frontier Girls Ice Hockey team is the only varsity team in WNY that is not fully funded by their school budgets. For the past four years Orchard Park/Frontier has been raising their funds through a multitude of fundraising efforts.
This season they have applied and were accepted by Dicks Sporting Goods for their Sports Matter Program. The girl’s must raise $7,805 and Dick’s will match that. If they don’t raise their goal–they will receive nothing from Dicks.
Their goal must be reached by MAY 23 AT 6 P.M. This is a tax deductible donation!!
“This was a very lengthy application process,” explained Liz DiTonto whose girls have played on the team since its founding. “Orchard Park/Froniter was one of 190 teams across the nation to be accepted by Dicks to participate in the program.”
“Every dollar is matched, unless we don’t meet the goal. Then nothing is awarded and the pledges aren’t even processed,” explained DiTonto.
Orchard Park/Frontier is one of the nine teams that make up the Western New York Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Federation. They play an intense scheduled from December to February. In addition many of the girls play for house and/or travel teams in WNY hockey organizations.
Orchard Park/Frontier ended the season with 5 wins, 8 losses and a tie. Jessica Urbank and Mikaela Dkitolntowre named given Honorable Mention to the WNYGVIH All League Team.
