SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange (1-7-1, 0-0-0 CHA) tallied two early goals against No. 2 Boston College (8-0-1, 4-0-1 HE) but could not complete the upset bid as the Eagles posted three goals in the third period to take the Saturday afternoon contest, 4-3. Sophomores Savannah Rennie and Kelli Rowswell each recorded two-point games for Syracuse.
“I thought our kids competed and it boiled down to a little execution here or there,” said head coach Paul Flanagan. “I liked that the kids played with passion and played hard. Some of the kids got on the scoresheet, which gives them some confidence. We have to understand how close we really are and move forward.”
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Senior Stephanie Grossi opened up scoring for the Orange picking up a rebound off a shot by fellow senior Alysha Burriss to notch her first goal of the season. Rennie received a long pass by Kristen Siermachesky and put the puck in the back of the net to give Syracuse the early 2-0 lead.
Defenseman Lindsay Eastwood tallied her first goal of the season just four minutes into the second frame to put the Orange up 3-1. Boston College responded 14 seconds later with a score of their own to cut the lead down to one.
It was all Eagles after that as the visitors posted two more goals in the second period to take a 4-3 lead, which they would hold onto the rest of the game.
OF NOTE
Three Syracuse players scored their first goals of the season in Grossi, Rennie and Eastwood. This also marks the first time this year that the Orange have posted three goals in a game.
Rowswell set a new career-high for assists and points with two against Boston College while Siermachesky recorded her first collegiate point, an assist on the Rennie goal.
Grossi is now in sole possession of fourth place for career goals in program history with 38. She sits just one goal behind third place (Holly Carrie-Mattimoe) and 15 goals behind leader Melissa Piacentini.
