ERIE, Pa. – The Syracuse ice hockey team battled conference foe Mercyhurst to overtime but ultimately came up short, 2-1, in game two of the series. Freshman Victoria Klimek posted the lone goal for the Orange, extending her scoring streak to two games.

HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Klimek got things going for the Orange as time expired in the first period, picking up the puck off the stick of fellow freshman Jessica DiGirolamo and sniping it past the Mercyhurst netminder.

Senior Abbey Miller played lights out hockey for two periods in net for the Orange, making 21 stops in the first 40 minutes of action. The Lakers evened the game at one, sneaking a goal past Miller just over five minutes into the final frame.

Despite Miller’s efforts, Mercyhurst carried its momentum into overtime, finding the back of the net at the 1:11 mark to take the 2-1 win.

OF NOTE
Miller totaled 34 saves against the Lakers, marking her sixth outing with 30 or more saves in a game and first since Oct. 13 when she made 31 stops against Providence. With her 34 saves against Mercyhurst, the senior eclipsed the 1,000 career saves mark, totaling 1,021 in her four-year career at Syracuse. She is just one of five goalies in program history to record 1,000 career saves.

This is the second time this season that Klimek has notched goals in back-to-back games, the other occurrence coming from Oct. 14-21 when the freshman scored in three straight games. Klimek currently sits tied for the team-lead with six goals on the year.
