ERIE, Pa. – An action-packed second period helped give the Orange a 4-2 road win at Mercyhurst on Friday afternoon.
Mercyhurst jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period on the power play. Heather Schwarz tied up the game just under two minutes into the second period. Stephanie Grossi put the Orange ahead 1:36 later. Schwarz got her second goal of the game with four minutes left in the second. Mercyhurst scored the final goal of the period with 30 seconds left to pull within one of the Orange.
The Orange led 3-2 when Megan Quinn scored her first goal of the season to give Syracuse an insurance goal.
“It was nice to cash in on a couple power plays today and get the win,” head coach Paul Flanagan said. “Hopefully we can carry this momentum into tomorrow’s game and garner two more conference points.”
Syracuse and Mercyhurst will return to the ice on Saturday for the second game of the weekend series. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. at Mercyhurst Ice Center.
