BROOKLYN – The National Hockey League announced today that John Tavares was named the First Star of the Week, for the week ending on April 10.
The Islanders captain had nine points (four goals, five assists) in four games last week, including back-to-back three-point games against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Washington Capitals. Tavares’ efforts helped the Islanders go 3-0-1 in the four games he played, clinching a playoff berth in the process.
Tavares’ four-goal week helped the Mississauga, ON, native hit the 30-goal mark for the third time in his career, as he finished the season with a team-high 33 goals and 70 points. Tavares also hit 70 points for the second straight season and third time in his career.
Tavares, a two-time Hart Trophy nominee, has led the Islanders in scoring in six of the last seven seasons and has never finished lower than second.
Tickets for all three first-round playoff games at Barclays Center are now available for purchase at islanders.nhl.com. The Islanders reached the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs by finishing with a 45-27-10 record and 100 points. It’s the franchise’s third playoff appearance in the last four seasons.
