CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Corey Temple (Troy, MI/Ohio Flames) and sophomore Sydney Carlucci (Baldwinsville/Rochester Edge) each netted a pair of goals to lead the Cortland women’s ice hockey team to a 7-1 win versus Canton Tuesday night in non-conference action at Alumni Arena.
Junior Laura Drew (Andover, MA/Canterbury School) and sophomore Josie Fletcher (Wasilla, AK/Alaska All-Stars) recorded one goal and one assist apiece, freshman Kiki Gutenmann (Clifton Park/Troy-Albany Ice Cats) notched her first career goal, sophomore Makenzie Wright (Burlington, ON/New Jersey Rockets) collected two assists and five others each chipped in with one assist for the Red Dragons (7-14-2). Junior goalie Deanna Meunier (Parsippany, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) made 20 saves.
Junior Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON/St. Stephen’s Secondary) netted the goal for the Kangaroos (2-21-1). Freshman goalie Rebecca DiNardo (Ottawa, ON/St. Paul’s Catholic) made 17 saves and allowed four goals through the first two periods before giving way to freshman Peyton Stafne (St. Louis Park, MN/St. Louis Park), who stopped 11 shots in the third period.
Cortland took a 2-0 lead after the first period as Drew and Carlucci scored similar goals on wrist shots just 23 seconds apart at 15:12 and 15:33, respectively. Fletcher made it 3-0 with a deflection in front at 11:53 of the second, and Temple netted her first of the night 10 seconds later on a rebound in front.
Carroll put the Kangaroos on the scoreboard when she knocked a loose puck into an empty net at 1:06 of the third, but Temple answered with her second of the game 42 seconds later on a wrist shot. At 6:04, Carlucci picked up her second of the night with a wrister shot in the top left, and Gutenmann finished the scoring with her first career goal with a shot from the slot.
