Yet another member of the vaunted U.S. National Development Team was taken in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver as Thornwood native small defenseman Domenick Fensore was selected 90th overall in the third round by the Carolina Hurricanes.

“It’s just a dream come true right now; my head is spinning and I don’t even know what happened in that moment,” Fensore said in the media room. “I’ve dreaming about this my whole life, so it’s awesome.”

Boston University bound this fall, Fensore had a solid 2018-19 campaign with 42 points in 55 games with the program’s U-18 team. That was second on the team among blueliners behind first round draft pick Cam York.

Standing 5’7” and 154 lb. Fensore hopes to slide seamlessly in to the new, faster pro game after his college career is over.

“I think I’m an offensive defenseman who loves to join the rush, find teammates and create space, but I can use my skating ability defensively as well closing down gaps and limiting time and space.

“Ever since I was growing up, I was not the tallest guy, so I had to work a little harder than everyone else.”
