HAVERHILL, Mass. – For their solid efforts this past weekend, Chris Lochner  Carsen Chubak and Rocky Gruttadauria of the Niagara men’s hockey team earned AHA weekly honors.  Lochner earned AHA Player of the Week laurels, Chubak grabbed AHA Goalie of the Week honors and Gruttadauria was named AHA Rookie of the Week.

Lochner netted the game-tying goal against CCHA foe Bowling Green to start the Niagara men’s hockey season with a 2-2 draw.   With 50 seconds left in the contest and the Purple Eagles trailing by a goal, the sophomore picked up a feed from teammate Kevin Albers, before ripping home a low, glove-side shot for his first tally of the season.   The Alpharette, Ga. native finished the game a plus-one.

Chubak made 34 stops in 65 minutes of play.  The junior made 29 saves in three periods of play to help the Purple Eagles extend play to overtime, and then pushed aside five Bowling Green looks on net.  His total was five shy of his career-high stops (39).  This was Chubak’s first start for Niagara since last October, when he was started in net against Michigan in the 2011-12 season opener.  He starts off the season with a 1.85 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage.

This was Gruttadauria first game as a Purple Eagle, starting off his collegiate career netting a goal for a point against the Falcons, giving the Purple Eagles their first lead of the game with less than five minutes remaining in the second stanza.  The rookie finished the game with two looks on net and a plus-one.
