3 Statesmen honored by league, Hobart ranked No. 11 in nation

Three members of the Hobart College hockey team earned weekly awards from the ECAC West late yesterday. In addition, the Statesmen were ranked No. 11 in the nation in both the USCHO.com poll and the D3hockey.com poll.

Senior Mac Olson (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) was tabbed the league’s Player of the Week and senior Lino Chimienti (Montreal, Quebec) was named the Goalie of the Week. First-year Tanner Shaw garnered a spot on the weekly honor roll.

Olson had a hand in four out of Hobart’s five goals in a 5-3 win at Nazareth on Friday night. He registered a hat trick and added an assist against the Golden Flyers. He leads the Statesmen with seven goals and nine points. Olson is tied for second in the ECAC West in points and ranks second in goals.

Chimienti played all 120 minutes in goal in Hobart’s two road wins over the weekend. He logged a total of 50 saves and sported a 2.00 GAA and a .926 save percentage over the weekend. At Nazareth, Chimienti made 24 saves. In a 5-1 win at Utica on Saturday night, he turned aside 26 shots. Chimienti is sporting a 1.38 goals against average, a .949 save percentage and a 4-0-1 record in goal. He leads the ECAC West in goals against average and save percentage.

Shaw posted three points on a goal and two assists last week. He scored the game-winning goal with 1:53 left in regulation on Friday. It was his first collegiate goal. Shaw notched two assists, including one on the game winner, on Saturday.

The Statesmen (4-1-1, 4-0-0 ECAC West) lead the ECAC West in scoring defense, allowing 1.83 goals per game. Hobart is third in scoring offense (3.83 goals per game) and third on the penalty kill (90.3 percent).

Hobart will be back in action this weekend, when it plays two ECAC West games at Elmira. The games on Nov. 20 and 21 will begin at 7 p.m.
