TROY, NY — The RIT women’s hockey team fell to Rensselaer (5-11-1, 2-4-0 ECAC) 5-1 in game one of a two-game non-conference road series on Friday afternoon at the Houston Field House. Rensselaer scored all five of its goals on the power-play.

RIT freshman Tori Haywood (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary’s Catholic) tallied her first career goal in the second period, while fellow freshman Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) made 32 saves. Laura Horwood, Jaimie Grisgby, Sabrina Repaci, and Makenna Thomas each had one goal and one assist, while Josefine Hansen had two helpers for the Engineers.

Rensselaer opened the scoring 2:26 into the contest, as Horwood put the Engineers up 1-0 on the first power-play of the game.

Rensselaer took a 2-0 lead 8:14 into the second period, as Grisgby tallied the Engineers’ second power-play tally of the game. But the Tigers cut the lead back to one just 30 seconds later, as Haywood notched her first career goal. Almost five minutes later, the Engineers potted their third power-play goal of the game, a rocket off the stick of Repaci, making it 3-1.

Rensselaer started strong in the third, as Thomas scored the Engineers’ fourth goal just 10 seconds into the period, again on the power-play. The Engineers added one more on the man advantage in the third, by Hannah Behounek.

RIT (2-15-0) was 0-for-3 on the power-play, but Rensselaer converted on its five chances on the man-advantage, going 5-for-8 overall. Rensselaer out-shot RIT, 37-28 overall.

The Tigers and Engineers will return to action for game two of the weekend series Saturday from the Houston Field House, beginning at 2 p.m.
