Hobart College senior Jonas Toupal was named the New England Hockey Conference’ Player of the Week by the conference office today. In addition, the Statesmen moved up to No. 5 in both the USCHO.com Poll and the D3hockey.com poll.

Hobart opened its season with a pair of victories over Elmira. The Statesmen defeated the Soaring Eagles 6-4 on Friday night in Pine Valley, N.Y., before winning 6-2 at The Cooler on Saturday. Toupal led the way for Hobart recording a team-high five points (4g, 1a). He scored a pair of goals in each game. On Friday he scored both of his goals in the first period one on the power play and one at full strength. The next night he scored twice in the second period and then assisted on junior Lawson MacDougal’s third period goal.

The Statesmen open NEHC play this week with two games in Vermont. Hobart will take on Castleton on Friday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. The Statesmen will then take on 12th-ranked Norwich on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Spartans opened the season with a 2-2 tie against Wentworth on Oct. 26. The Cadets are also 0-0-1 to start the season after playing to a 3-3 tie against Endicott on Oct. 27.
