DANBURY, Conn. – Following his first career multi-goal game on Friday night, freshman Casper Dyrssen (Stockholm, Sweden/Northern Cyclones (EHL)) of the Manhattanville College men’s hockey team was named the ECAC West Conference Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Dyrssen is the third Valiant freshman to earn ECAC West Rookie of the Week honors this season, joining classmates Cory Anderson (Bakersfield, Calif./Notre Dame Hounds (SJHL)) and Jeff Beck (Broomall, Pa./Philadelphia Junior Flyers (EHL)).
Playing just his sixth game of the season due to injury, Dyrssen came up huge for Manhattanville in Friday’s 5-4 (OT) victory over #5/5 Hobart College, which kept the Valiants in second place in the ECAC West Conference. The freshman scored early in the second period to give the Valiants a 3-1 lead with his second goal of the year. Then, after the game went into overtime, Dyrssen jammed home the puck off a scramble in front of the Statesmen net to win the game for the Valiants.
Dyrssen, who has dressed for each of the last six games for Manhattanville, has scored three goals with an assist for four points, tied for 10th on the team in goals.
Dyrssen and the Valiants will return to action tomorrow night, as Manhattanville hosts Elmira College at 8 p.m. in the final regular-season game of the season at Playland Ice Casino. A win would clinch a top-two seed in the upcoming ECAC West Conference Tournament and a bye into the semifinal round.
