UTICA, NY – The Utica College men’s hockey team is set to host two ECAC West Conference home games this weekend at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. The Pioneers will host Elmira College on Friday at 7 p.m. before turning right back around to host Hobart College on Saturday at 7 p.m.

RECEIVING VOTES: UC is receiving votes in both the USCHO.com and the D3hockey.com national polls, released Monday … The Pioneers picked up 13 votes in the USCHO.com poll, placing them fourth in the “receiving votes” category … Utica also picked up four votes in the D3hockey.com poll this week after starting the season 2-0-1.

LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers played two games against Nazareth College this past weekend … On Friday, UC won game one of the weekend conference set 4-1 … On Saturday, the Pioneers finished with a 2-2 tie against the Golden Flyers, taking their record to 2-0-1 on the year and 1-0-1 in ECAC West play … Six different players had goals for Utica on the weekend … Joel Wetmore (Horseheads, NY/Lindsay (OJHL)), Nick Miglio (San Antonio, TX/Bismarck (NAHL)), Alex Brissette (Atlanta, GA/Hampton Roads (USPHL)), and Hayden Dawes (Stony Plain, Alberta/Drayton Valley (AJHL)) each had a goal in the 4-1 win … Alex Roberts (Burnaby, British Columbia/Brooks Bandits (AJHL)) and Mikhail Bushinski (Woodbury, MN/Kenai River (NAHL)) had a goal apiece in the 2-2 tie against Nazareth.

ECAC WEST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Freshman goalie Michael Fredrick (Lethbridge, Alberta/Brooks Bandits (AJHL)) was named the ECAC West Rookie of the Week on Monday after helping the Pioneers to a 1-0-1 record to open up conference play over the weekend … Fredrick totaled 54 saves over the course of two games last weekend … On Friday, he turned aside 31-of-32 shots in a 4-1 victory over Nazareth … He also added 23 saves in the Pioneers’ 2-2 tie against the Golden Flyers on Saturday … Fredrick has accumulated 80 saves over the first three games with a save percentage of .941 … He ranks second in the conference with a 1.62 goals against average.

LEADING THE WAY: Sophomore forward Alex Brissette (Atlanta, GA/Hampton Roads (USPHL)) leads UC so far with a team-best three goals to go along with one assist … Freshman forward, Hayden Dawes (Stony Plain, Alberta/Drayton Valley (AJHL)) is second on the team in goals with two, and he is also second on the team with two assists … Dawes is tied for 11th nationally amoung rookies with an average of 1.33 points per game.

TEAM EFFORT: The Pioneers have eight different players that have scored a goal so far this season … UC also has 12 players with at least one assist on the season … They have 14 total players with at least one point this season … Overall the team has 29 points, while their opponents only have nine points … The Pioneers have outscored their opponents 11-5 so far this season … UC is tied for sixth nationally, allowing 1.67 goals per contest.

PERFECT PENALTY KILL: Utica’s penalty kill unit is tied for first nationally with a perfect 11-for-11 effort so far this season.

SCOUTING ELMIRA: The Soaring Eagles are 0-2-0 so far this season and 0-2-0 in the ECAC West … Leading the way for Elmira is Mike Davis, who has four goals, all-coming in the first game of the season against Neumann University … Shane Topf, Jon Low, Mitch Atkins, and Anthony Pino have also chipped in with one goal each … Shayne Morrissey is leading the team so far with three assists … Elmira lost its season opener 7-6 in overtime against Neumann … The Soaring Eagles wrapped up opening weekend with a 4-1 loss against Manhattanville.

SCOUTING HOBART: The Statesmen are off to a 2-1-1 start this season including a 2-0-0 ECAC West record, with Mac Olson and Brad Robbins leading the way … Olson has four goals and one assist through the first four games, while Robbins has three goals and one assist … Ben Gamache has also been key, leading Hobart in assists with three … Hobart goalie Lino Chimienti

LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers will be back in action on Friday Nov. 20 when they travel to Neumann University … UC will also play Saturday Nov. 21 at Manhattanville College. Both games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
