BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Daniel Ciampini scored with 1:43 left in regulation to lift Union to a 3-1 victory over Sacred Heart in the consolation game of the Frozen Holiday Classic at Webster Bank Arena.

Reminiscent of his last-second game-winner scored last year at Penn State, Ciampini used a series of dekes to weave through the Sacred Heart back line, tucking a shot inside the left post. Ryan Scarfo added an empty-netter – his second goal of the game as part of a three-point night – to seal the win.

Scarfo opened scoring by lifting a shot from the left circle at 9:00 of the first period.  Sacred Heart answered at 10:49 on Zach Luczyk’s goal scored on a two-on-one rush.  Scarfo’s busy night also included a penalty shot attempt, he was turned away by goaltender Andrew Bodnarchuk with 12:21 left in the third.

Dutchmen goaltender Alex Sakellaropoulos won his second straight decision, having allowed just two goals in his last two starts. He finished with 21 saves.

Union (10-7-1) travels to No.1-ranked Boston U. next Saturday (Jan. 3)
