Union continued its success against Hockey East opponents, posting a 3-0 win over Maine in the Dutchmen’s road opener before 4,895 at the Alfond Arena. Union has now won nine straight against against Hockey East, dating to December 2012.

Senior goaltender Colin Stevens was named the game’s No. 1 Star after making 29 saves to record his 10th career shutout. Maine’s biggest threat came in the third period, when Union was whistled for back-to-back penalties.  The Dutch, however, killed off both short-handed situations.

Mike Vecchione earned No. 2 Star honors, opening scoring on a slap shot from outside the blueline that deflected off the glove of goaltender Matt Morris and trickled across the goal line.  Vecchione has scored in all three games this season.

The second-ranked Dutchmen added a pair of goals in the third period.  Matt Wilkins put his blade on a pass from Kevin Shier for a chip-in 5:31 into the period before freshman Spencer Foo sealed the win with an empty-netter at 18:49.
