BY JON MARCHESE —

Second semester madness. That is the best way to describe the second-half of the UNYCHL season.

The West will likely come down to the final weekend as both Buffalo and Fredonia sit tied at 7-1-1 while ECC is 4-0-2.

Saturday February 8th Fredonia will play at ECC and Sunday February 9th Buffalo will be at ECC.

The top three teams qualify for postseason play as UB and Fredonia have already clinched. ECC needs just 2 points over their final four games to qualify.

What’s at stake? The UNYCHL changed its playoff format to a crossover after round one. The third place team travels to the second place team within the division however; the winner of that game will then play at the number one seed of the Fingerlakes division.

That spot is currently owned by St Bonaventure (who is 11-0 in division play; however Fredonia did defeat them in a prior head to head this year).

The school that finishes first in the West gets to host the #2/#3 winner of the Fingerlakes. Brockport has secured a playoff spot while University of Rochester currently holds the three seed.

Further East Clarkson and Binghamton comfortably hold playoff spots while Hamilton/Union/Albany will fight for the other two.

The UNYCHL final four is Saturday February 22 and Sunday February 23.
