US National Sled Hockey Team To Train This Weekend In Santa Barbara, CA

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 2016-17 U.S. National Sled Hockey Team will train this weekend (March 23-25) at Ice in Paradise in Santa Barbara, California. The training camp will be Team USA’s final preparation for the 2017 International Paralympic Committee Sled Hockey World Championship that will take place in Gangneung, South Korea. The tournament will be held at Gangneung Center and is doubling as a test event for the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games.

The United States enters the 2017 IPC Sled Hockey World Championship as defending champions and winners of six straight major international tournaments.

Team USA will hold five practices, all open to the public, commencing Thursday (March 23). See below for the complete training camp schedule:

Head coach Guy Gosselin (Grafton, Wis.) will be making his international head coaching debut with Team USA at the world championship. Gosselin, who worked alongside former head coach Jeff Sauer (Madison, Wis.) from 2011-15, helped guide Team USA to gold medals at the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, and the 2012 IPC Sled Hockey World Championship in Hamar, Norway, as well as a silver medal at the 2013 IPC Sled Hockey World Championship in Goyang, South Korea.

The 2016-17 U.S. National Sled Hockey Team is led by captain Andy Yohe (Bettendorf, Iowa) and alternate captains Nikko Landeros (Johnstown, Colo.) and Josh Pauls (Green Brook, N.J.). In addition to Landeros and Pauls, the U.S. roster includes two other two-time Paralympic gold medalists, including forward Adam Page (Lancaster, N.Y.) and goaltender Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.). Cortese, Isaacson, and Uihlein have been staff members for the past four seasons.
